I would love to travel to Erbil – this to me screams real travel – history, culture in tact, it’s a real experience and so much opportunity for cultural immersion away from the mass tourism which plagues other cities.
There are places to spend the night, but I would make it a day trip. Leave early from Erbil and drive back around 4 pm before it gets dark. There kan zijn barely any street lighting. Better be safe than sorry.

In de volkstellingen tot 1965 werden de etnische minderheden van Turkije geregistreerd. In een jaren dertig en veertig werden een Koerden daarenboven wanneer "Bergturken" (dağlı) geregistreerd. Enkele Turkse taalkundigen probeerden - betreffende officiële steun van de Turkse overheid - ook aan te tonen dat dit Koerdisch ons dialect zou zijn van het Turks.[12] In een jaren tachtig werden een ander eufemisme bedacht vanwege de Koerden; ze werden sindsdien geregistreerd als "Oostelijke Turken" (doğulu). Veel collegas aangaande een SIS (Turks Schrijftafel vanwege een Statistiek) welke het voor een volkstelling met 1985 mogelijk wilden vervaardigen met burgers in de volkstellingslijsten aan te melden dat ze ingeval 2e taal Koerdisch spraken, werden hiervoor via een staat aangeklaagd.
Een Koerden wensen ons persoonlijk land, omdat ze een enig volk zijn met een eigen taal, cultuur en religie en daar ze niet wanneer onderdrukte minderheid willen leven.
